Position Overview :
NWIFC is seeking candidates for the full-time, exempt role of Biometrician II, with the focus on Population Dynamics & Modeling of Coho Salmon. This position is integral to the Fisheries Services team and will provide modeling and statistical analysis services to Tribal and NWIFC technical staffs. These services include assisting in the development and application of harvest management models for salmon and population assessment models for marine fish and shellfish; conducting statistical analyses; assisting in the development of study designs and sampling strategies; providing general statistical consulting to Tribal and NWIFC staff; and report writing.
Key Responsibilities :
data. Develop or review sample designs for data collection by tribal biologists, NWIFC staff, and
state/federal researchers. Analyze fish data for tribal biologists and NWIFC staff and document the
methods and results of these analyses through reports and detailed memos.
Required Qualification:
· A Bachelors or Masters of Science in Mathematics, Statistics, Biometry, or Quantitative Science
(or) a Bachelors or Master of Science in Fisheries with major course work in mathematics, statistics, population dynamics, and/or natural resource modeling.
· With a Bachelors degree, two years of pertinent work experience, a record of applying statistical methods to biological data is required. With a Masters degree, a record of published statistical or quantitative work may be substituted for one year of work experience.
· Knowledge of the application of statistical methods to biological problems and fishery management.
· Proficient with computers and familiar with word processing, spreadsheet, and statistical analysis programs. Must be fluent in at least one programming language or R.
· The ability to communicate statistical concepts clearly to a diverse audience.
· An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the
essential functions of the position.
· A valid Driver’s License and ability to be covered by NWIFC auto and liability insurances for essential job duties.
