Position Summary

The Director of Events is a member of the American Royal Leadership Team and is responsible for leading a team in the successful execution of all American Royal events. This individual will ensure every event aligns with the Association’s mission and purpose and delivers exceptional attendee experience. The ideal candidate is a creative, highly organized, results-driven professional with experience in event strategy, production, and team leadership.

The Director of Events will lead and mentor a high-performing team of event managers and coordinators responsible for the planning and execution of the World Series of Barbecue, Livestock Show, ProRodeo, Youth Rodeo, equine shows, and various educational and fundraising events. Also providing oversight for the Events Team, including day-to-day supervision, annual performance evaluations, and development plan implementation.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate and execute the overall strategy aligned with the strategic plan and brand positioning.
  • Develops and oversees all policies and procedures that support effective event management for the American Royal.
  • Leads the planning and execution of all American Royal events, ensuring consistency and excellence through a standardized event management approach.
  • Guide the annual events calendar for American Royal programs and coordinate scheduling with hosted and partner events.
  • Oversee event lifecycle from concept to execution, including budget management, logistics, content planning, contractor relations, and on-site supervision.
  • Manage and track event budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and maximum ROI.
  • Analyze event performance metrics, post-event reports, and attendee feedback to inform future strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations, responsible for the development of an annual integrated master event plan for the American Royal incorporating project plans for each event and an integrated master plan to ensure resource allocation and professional technical execution of events.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Partnership, responsible to create an annual event sponsorship plan, consistent sponsorship packet templates and benefit fulfillment to support each American Royal event.
  • Collaborate with the Communication team, responsible to develop and execute the annual marketing and communications plan to support promotion of the American Royal events.
  • Ensure all events comply with local laws, existing contracts, association policies, and health & safety protocols.
  • Develop contingency plans and manage crisis situations as needed.
  • Stay current on industry trends and event technologies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • 3-5 years of experience leading large scale events
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience
  • 2-3 years of project management experience
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of budget and accounting practices
  • Experience within the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Willingness to work overtime as required
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high-pressure environment with tight deadlines
