Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is integral to both Newman Sanitary Gasket Company and Newman Diaphragms Inc., playing a key part in the design, development, and improvement of our full range of sealing and diaphragm products. You will be a critical contributor to our product innovation and ensure our solutions continue to meet the rigorous standards of the industries we serve.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop new products and components using 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD).
  • Optimize existing product designs for performance, manufacturability, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate product performance (e.g., flex life), material compatibility, and compliance with industry standards (FDA, USP Class VI, 3-A).
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to troubleshoot production issues, improve processes, and develop necessary tooling and fixtures.
  • Research, select, and qualify appropriate elastomers, plastics, and other materials for demanding sanitary applications.
  • Create and maintain detailed engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), and other technical documentation.
  • Analyze test data and prepare clear, concise technical reports.
  • Provide technical support to sales, customer service, and clients as a subject matter expert.
  • Represent the company by attending and participating in industry standards committee meetings (e.g., ASME BPE, 3-A, EHEDG).
  • Manage engineering projects from initial concept through to production release.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or a closely related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a mechanical design or product development role, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD preferred).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials science (especially elastomers and polymers), and manufacturing processes (e.g., molding, machining).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience with the design of gaskets, seals, or diaphragms.
  • Knowledge of sanitary design principles and standards (e.g., FDA, 3-A, USP Class VI).
  • Experience in the food & beverage, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industries.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
  • Project management experience.

Work Environment & Travel:

  • This is a full-time, on-site position at our facility in Lebanon, Ohio.
