Job Description

The ideal candidate will own the entire production process. They will strategize with other internal teams to ensure operational excellence and safety. The will also run quality assessment to ensure customer satisfaction.

Job Title: Production Manager

Job Summary:

Safely directs and coordinates activities of production department by applying knowledge of safety and production methods while continually assessing skills and job performance of process techs, supervisors, and coordinators. Responsible for driving and maintaining safety initiatives, quality standards, maintenance of injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment. Must be the active team leader for safety, quality, and production.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the safety of all employees, demonstrated through active engagement in safety activities and providing clear, consistent communication of safe work expectations.
  • Supports and investigates situations in which line/equipment stoppage occurs due to perceived, imminent safety risk.
  • Completes incident investigations, root cause analysis and implements corrective actions accordingly in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Work closely with the Human Resources Department to ensure that staffing and training requirements are met.
  • Responsible to drive KPI for the operations: Quality, OEE, Labor - $/Lb., Scrap
  • Ensure overall product quality by working closely with the quality assurance team.
  • Ensure safety, 5-S, cleanliness, and organization standards are maintained in the manufacturing area.
  • Ensure production cycles are being maintained.
  • Initiate and coordinate maintenance activities with Maintenance/Technical Manager to ensure machine and auxiliary equipment are functioning properly and efficiently.
  • Report daily absenteeism to management. Accurately track and document team member absentees, tardiness and early departures within the payroll system (ADP).
  • Ensure proper and continuous job training and development of all assigned employees for whom they are responsible.
  • Actively lead risk assessment activities for the area of responsibility by driving prioritized corrective and preventive actions to eliminate/reduce environmental, health or safety risks.
  • Involved in or initiates all required meetings (i.e., Pre-shift, Department, Change Management, General Communication, Town Hall, etc.)
  • Motivates and coaches Supervisors and Production Leads through good communication and frequent performance feedback. Identifies and coordinates additional training as needed.
  • Must be able to work additional/adjusted schedules as required.
  • Work with Supervisors to ensure employees receive their prescribed break and meal periods.
  • Work closely with QA Inspectors and train employees to understand the level of quality needed to meet or exceed our set standards.
  • Responsible for maintaining the areas around all machines clean, organized and safe.
  • Must be able to assume the duties of the facility lead during the absence of the VP Operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Schedule daily staffing to fulfill production schedule and keep overtime to a minimal level.
  • Continuous management, training and evaluation of Supervisors, Production Leads and Process Techs.
  • Mentor, coach, and discipline as appropriate.
  • Conduct and participate in performance evaluations.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be familiar with Injection molding processes.
  • Must be able to work with proprietary computer software (IQMS)
  • Must be familiar with MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Must be able to wear proper protective equipment.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must have an intimate knowledge of all duties of the Production Supervisor and Production Leads.

Education and Experience:

  • HS Diploma/GED required.
  • 5+ years of production manufacturing experience preferred.
  • 2+ years prior supervisory experience preferred.

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk (80% of the time), use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
